South Bend’s Armory is slowly being transformed into a premier event space for St. Joseph County. This Swiss Army knife of a building has served a variety of purposes since its construction in the 1920s: a National Guard Armory, a police firing range and a public recreation center.

Stripped to the frame and foundation, the new owners wanted only to retain the shell of the structure, while investing over a million in interior improvements.  But not everything was replaced.  Rather than install a new floor, the duo stripped, sanded and varnished the original 16,200 square foot floor.
